Growing Healthy Bodies, Minds & Habits
"Food is not simply fuel. It is information. It is culture. It is medicine. It is community. It is one of the first ways we teach children how to care for themselves and others."
At Little Village, food is not a break from learning. Food is learning. Children don't simply eat. They harvest. Prepare. Cook. Taste. Observe. Ask questions. Practice gratitude. And experience the joy of sharing a meal together. We believe these moments around the table are just as valuable as anything taught in a classroom.
Our Food Philosophy
We intentionally prepare meals that reflect the values of Little Village.
🌱 100% Organic Ingredients
Every meal and snack we serve is prepared using organic ingredients. Whenever possible, we harvest directly from our own gardens. When we can't grow it ourselves, we source from local organic farmers and farmers' markets.
🥕 Garden to Table
Children experience food from seed to plate: Planting, Harvesting, Preparing, Cooking, Sharing, Eating, and Cleaning up together. This connection helps children appreciate where food comes from while developing practical life skills.
🥩 Thoughtfully Sourced Animal Products
We prioritize local farms. Our goal: Grass-fed & grass-finished beef, pasture-raised poultry & eggs, dairy from responsibly raised animals. No routine antibiotics or added hormones whenever possible.
🍽 Whole Foods Over Ultra-Processed Foods
We focus on simple, nourishing meals made from real ingredients. Rather than highly processed snacks, we introduce children to foods that nourish both body and mind. We believe healthy food can also be beautiful, joyful, and delicious.
💧 Water
Hydration is encouraged throughout the day with fresh spring water. As part of our daily practice, we bless the water to reflect mindfulness and appreciation for the life it sustains. Families are welcome to embrace these moments in their own way.
🍳 Cooking Is a Life Skill
Cooking is a gift. Children learn: Knife safety, kitchen confidence, measuring, recipes, teamwork, cleaning up, trying new foods, serving others, and responsibility. These lessons extend far beyond the kitchen.
